Carnival of Venice

 

 

The origins of the Venetian Carnival are ancient and were attributed to the need of the Serenissima to give the population a period devoted entirely to entertainment and festivities, during which the Venetians were pouring across the city to party with music and wild dancing. All citizens were wearing masks and costumes, joyful participation and unknow in this ritual of collective disguise was, and still is, the very essence of Carnival.

The current Venice Carnival has become a big and spectacular tourist event, which attracts thousands of visitors from around the world who flock to the city to participate in this party considered only for history, atmosphere and masks. The starting date of the Carnival is the Saturday before Fat Thursday to, by tradition the grand opening is represented by the Flight of the Dove, which took place at noon on the first Sunday of celebration, and the end of the celebrations is Shrove Tuesday, for a total duration of eleven days, with a full program of individual appointments.
